Prepare a WordPress site for app installation

SuperPWA Premium generates a web app manifest and adds it to the website. On supported mobile browsers, visitors can install the site using an Add To Home Screen prompt or the browser menu, then launch it from their device home screen in an app-like interface. Installation requires HTTPS and a browser that supports web app manifests and service workers. The listed major browsers and versions are Chrome 57+, Chrome for Android 62, Firefox 57 and Firefox for Android 58.

Set the app's appearance

In the plugin settings, select an application icon, set the splash screen background color and select the show property. Maskable and monochrome icons are supported, as are WordPress installations in a sub-folder.

Choose what visitors can read offline

Pages a visitor has opened can be stored on their device with the CacheStorage API and read offline. A page that has not been cached cannot be served from that cache; when it is requested offline, the configured offline page appears.

Install and configure

In WordPress Admin, open Plugins > Add New, search for "Super Progressive Web Apps," select Install Now, then Activate. For manual installation, upload the super-progressive-web-apps folder to /wp-content/plugins/ and activate it from the Plugins screen.

Open the SuperPWA settings, set the application icon and splash screen color, choose the display property, and save. Then visit the site on a supported mobile device and browser. Visitors can install it from the prompt, when available, or the browser menu. Previously visited pages can be opened offline if they were cached; requests for uncached pages show the configured offline page.

The add-on's clean uninstall removes the database entries and documents it creates.
