Sequential Order Number for WooCommerce Premium: Formats and Resets
WooCommerce uses WordPress’s shared ID system for posts, pages, media, and orders. An ID may already be in use when an order is created, which can leave gaps in order numbers. Sequential Order Number for WooCommerce Premium gives orders a custom sequence and can apply the configured format to new and existing orders.
Why WooCommerce order numbers can skip
WooCommerce uses WordPress’s shared ID system for posts, pages, media, and orders. An ID may already be in use when an order is created, which can leave gaps in order numbers. Sequential Order Number for WooCommerce Premium gives orders a custom sequence and can apply the configured format to new and existing orders.
Choose where numbering begins
Stores without existing orders
Start the sequence at 1 or enter another starting value.
Stores with existing orders
The sequence can continue from the latest order number. You can also select to keep existing order numbers or organize them using the configured format. Decide how to handle current numbers before completing setup.
Set the number format
Choose a starting number, prefix, order number length, and template. Premium adds custom suffixes, the option to include the order date as a suffix, more templates, and a custom increment. Templates can combine the number with a prefix, date, or other supported components. Preview the configured number before applying it.
Set reset timing and free-order numbering
Configure order numbers to reset automatically each day, month, or year. A separate custom sequence is also available for free orders, keeping them apart from the main sequence.
Find and track orders
Admin order search supports custom order numbers, and order tracking helps locate order details. The add-on also supports subscription orders and WooCommerce custom order numbers. Sequential numbering can help estimate order activity and keep order entries easier to reference.
The Premium version is listed as compatible with HPOS and related WooCommerce tools for shipment tracking, subscriptions, payments, invoices, packing slips, order import and export, point of sale, refunds, and payment gateways. Where an integration retrieves order data, use the order number rather than the underlying order ID when applicable, such as $order->get_order_number().
Install and configure
Install and activate the add-on, then open its settings. Choose the starting number and template, configure the prefixes, suffixes, dates, increments, length, reset schedule, and free-order sequence you need. Review the preview before saving. If the shop has existing orders, decide whether to retain their numbers or apply the configured sequence before finishing setup.
