Choose content types and set action dates
Enable the post types you want to manage under Future > Post Types. These can include posts, pages, WooCommerce products, LearnDash courses, and custom post types. Set a date and action in the Future panel in the editor’s right sidebar. The panel works with the block editor, the Classic Editor, and most page builders. Quick Edit and Bulk Edit can set action dates for multiple posts.
Choose the scheduled change
- Change content to Draft or Private, move it to the Trash, or delete it.
- Turn the option to stick a post to the top of the blog on or off.
- Replace existing categories, add categories while keeping the current ones, or remove only the categories named in the action.
- Move content to a custom status, including statuses supplied by other extensions. Custom statuses are a Pro feature.
Build Action Workflows
Action Workflows combine multiple steps and schedules in one content process. For example, a process can email the site administrator when a post is updated, move a post to Trash one week after publication, or move it to Draft and add a category 15 days after publication. Another workflow can email the author one year after publication to request a content review.
Use metadata for scheduling and imports
Metadata Scheduling can take action details from Advanced Custom Fields or another supported add-on. Connected fields can provide the action status, action date, action type, taxonomy name, and taxonomy term IDs. For example, an Advanced Custom Fields date field can supply the date for a Future Action.
PublishPress Future Pro also supports importing posts with associated Future Actions. Importers such as WP All Import can map their columns to the Metadata Scheduling fields so imported posts receive their scheduled actions.
Configure notices, logs, and displayed dates
Email notifications can report when content changes; configure them under Future > Notifications. Pro action logs record which post an action affected, what changed, and when. You can also show an action or expiry date at the bottom of a post, or use a shortcode to place the date within the content and choose its formatting.
Set defaults and process scheduled actions
You can choose a default action for each enabled post type under Future > Post Types. To create that action automatically for new content, turn on Automatically create actions; choosing a default alone does not schedule an action.
Scheduled changes are stored in Action Scheduler, which usually processes its queue through WP-Cron. If a change does not run, check that WP-Cron is working. Sites that intentionally disable WP-Cron can process the queue with Action Scheduler’s async runner or WP-CLI.
