Random Content Pro is a standalone WordPress add-on with core random-content capabilities and Pro controls. Create entries with the Random Content post type and WordPress editor; entries can contain text, pictures, HTML, shortcodes, and embeds. Organize them into groups, which work like categories and keep rotation sets separate. If the free version is already installed, deactivate it before activating Pro.

Choose which content can appear

Set start and end dates for individual entries to control when they are available. Target content using a visitor’s login status or user role, UTM parameters, referrer, or page type. Group show rules can also limit visibility to logged-in visitors, specific roles, or specific page types.

• Prevent an entry from appearing twice in a row and set cooldown periods between displays.
• Give each item a weight from 1 to 10; higher-weight entries are selected more often.
• Choose fallback content for cases where filtering leaves no eligible items.

Place a rotation

Add the [random_content] shortcode to a post, page, sidebar, or widget area. To select from a particular group, include its ID, for example [random_content group_id="64"]. Set num_posts to display multiple entries, such as [random_content group_id="13" num_posts="3"].

Content renders on the server by default. A full-page cache or CDN may keep the rendered selection in place; add ajax="yes" to load it after the page loads, as in [random_content group_id="64" ajax="yes"].

You can also add the Random Content widget under Appearance → Widgets, select a group, and set how many entries to display. Leave the group blank to draw from all entries. The extension uses PHP randomization and built-in transient caching.

Set up your content

1. Create entries under the Random Content post type.
2. Create groups under Random Content → Groups and assign entries to them.
3. Add a shortcode or the Random Content widget where the rotation should appear.
4. Configure scheduling, targeting, frequency, weights, display rules, and fallback content as needed.
