Control how WordPress resources are delivered

AEH Speed Optimization Pro combines browser cache rules with file processing, lazy loading, and image optimization. Expiry rules set how long browsers retain resources, minification reduces transferred code, merging can reduce requests, and lazy loading delays media until it is needed.

Set cache rules by file type

Assign expiry times by MIME type, add rules for external resources, and define additional file types. You can also refresh the cache periodically, unset Entity Tags (ETags), use HTTP Gzip compression, exclude specific files from caching, and remove version information from files.

Expiry-header options update the site's .htaccess file. The hosting server must have mod_expires enabled, and the add-on needs read/write permission for that file.

Process CSS, JavaScript, and HTML

For CSS, choose whether to merge files, minify them, load processed files asynchronously, or inline small footer styles. Admin users can be excluded from minification to help avoid page-builder issues. JavaScript files can also be merged and minified, with an option to defer scripts. HTML minification reduces page data, and Google Fonts can be placed inline to reduce external requests.

Choose which media loads later

Lazy loading works with images, iframes, videos, widgets, and shortcodes. Responsive images are supported, and custom placeholders can appear while content loads. Exclude critical components when they need to load immediately.

Resize and convert images

The image settings can automatically convert files to WebP or AVIF and resize images for the screen size and device type. The dashboard displays image optimization statistics, savings, and performance information. Image optimization is intended to reduce file size while retaining visible clarity.

Configure the add-on

1. Activate the plugin and open its settings.
2. Select the file types for expiry headers, assign expiry days by MIME type, and enable the MIME types to cover.
3. Submit the settings to save them and update .htaccess with the selected expires headers.
4. Set file-processing options in the Minification tab and media options in the Lazy Loading tab. Configure conversion, resizing, and statistics in the image optimization settings.
