Manage WordPress files and folders
Advanced File Manager Pro brings file management into the WordPress dashboard and can display a file manager or document library on the frontend. Set the root directory path to work with files inside or outside the WordPress root. Use the toolbar or context menu to copy, paste, rename, edit, delete, upload and download files, or make and extract archives.
Browse and organize files
Drag and drop to upload or move items. Search and sort files, return to recent directories, calculate folder sizes, and select multiple files or folders for bulk operations. Grid, icon and list views offer various ways to browse, while the dashboard includes storage information. Chunked uploads support large files and folders. You can set a maximum upload size in the add-on settings, though the effective limit also depends on WordPress and hosting server configuration.
Archive formats include ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZIP and BZIP2. Preview PDFs, pictures, video and audio files in the manager. Image thumbnails help identify visual files. The built-in editor can edit files, and the code editor includes an AI assistant for generating, editing and customizing code. PHP debugging is also available in the code editor.
Set frontend access and permissions
Add frontend file management with the Advanced File Manager block or shortcode. The configured frontend area can be available to logged-in users or public users. Pro access settings include controls by WordPress role and individual user, private folders, personal user folders, hidden files and folders, and permissions for actions such as uploading, downloading and deleting. Review the selected directory and permissions before making a file area available to others.
File logs record operations with details such as the user, date and time, event, path, file type and IP address. Email notifications can report when files or folders are created or deleted; Pro also includes Slack notifications for added or deleted items.
Cloud connections and integrations
Pro integrations include Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Amazon S3, pCloud, Cloudflare R2, Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage and Google Cloud Storage. DigitalOcean Spaces and Azure Blob Storage are marked as coming soon. The extension also includes WP Adminer integration for accessing and managing the WordPress database.
Getting started
Install and activate the plugin, open File Manager in the WordPress dashboard, and set the root directory path and preferred view. Review role and operation permissions before granting other users access. To add a frontend file area, place the Advanced File Manager block or shortcode and configure access for its intended audience.
