Review alt text across the media library

Image Alt Text Pro gives WordPress visitors a table for finding and updating image alt text. The coverage dashboard shows counts for pictures with alt text, images missing it, and the total, alongside a colour-coded progress bar. A dedicated view focuses on images without alt text. Search and sorting help locate specific files, including WooCommerce product, gallery, and variation images. Inline edits update descriptions without a page refresh.

Use WordPress information or generate with AI

For existing images, bulk actions can copy a cleaned filename or the attached post or page title into the alt text field. Filename cleanup removes WordPress size suffixes such as -1024×768 and -scaled, then turns hyphens and underscores into readable words. Title cleanup tidies separators and capitalization while preserving intentional casing such as iPhone. A fixed prefix or postfix can be added to copied, generated, or automatically added text.

AI generation uses your own API key with one of four vision providers: OpenAI GPT-4o, Google Gemini 2.0 Flash, Claude AI using Haiku, or Hugging Face using Qwen2.5-VL. Choose a provider and write a custom prompt to guide the tone and SEO goals of descriptions. Generate text for existing images or enable automatic generation when images are uploaded. For library work, use one-click bulk processing, process images in the current view without selecting them individually, set the batch size sent to the AI API, or select any number of images for a bulk AI action.

Choose what context AI receives

The optional Send Image Context to AI setting can include an image filename and its attached post or page title in the AI request. This gives the request details that can help describe a venue, product, or location alongside visible image details. Strict, Balanced, and SEO context strength options control how strongly those terms are used. The option is off by default.

Set up and maintain the library

Install and activate Image Alt Text Pro in WordPress. Add a provider API key if you want to use AI generation, then review the coverage dashboard and update images through inline edits, bulk tools, or AI actions. Search, sorting, and bulk processing support ongoing work across the existing library, while automatic generation can handle new uploads.

The add-on supports WordPress multisite networks and is translation ready, with German, Spanish, and Portuguese translations included. Technical questions and enhancement requests can be submitted through the plugin's native support forum.
