Build a taxonomy structure
Create unlimited media categories and tags, define custom taxonomies, or assign third-party taxonomies to media items. Custom and code-registered taxonomies are supported. Media filters can include or exclude child categories, so you can decide whether a parent selection also shows items assigned to its children.
Choose how to find and edit items
Configure whether the library shows data, author, and taxonomy filters, with separate filter settings for each taxonomy. Advanced search filters items as you type the first letters of a name. You can choose to display each item's title, filename, or caption.
- Apply unlimited bulk edits to selected media.
- Reorder items in the library with drag and drop.
- Use infinite scroll or set how many items load per page.
- Automatically categorize media items attached to posts.
Use taxonomy terms in galleries and playlists
Set up dynamic galleries and playlists with dropdowns and checkboxes. Their settings do not require shortcode coding. WordPress gallery and playlist shortcodes can also filter items by media category or another taxonomy, month, year, or item limit. The same taxonomy structure can therefore organize items in the library and select which items appear in a display.
Control file types and transfer settings
MIME Types Management lets you add or remove file types and allow or disallow uploads. A file type can also be included in media filters.
Plugin settings can be exported, imported, or restored. When moving a media library to another website, use WordPress's built-in content export and import for the content, then transfer the plugin settings to reproduce the configuration.
Use with WordPress and multisite
The add-on works with WordPress hooks for media taxonomies and items, supports REST API access, and does not create custom database tables. Deactivation leaves media items and taxonomies in place.
Enhanced Media Library is multisite compatible. Network administrators can activate it across the network and choose which options administrators can use. The PRO license key is activated once for the whole network.
Installation
Install and activate Enhanced Media Library PRO through the WordPress plugin workflow, then open its settings in the administration area. Create taxonomies, configure filters, and adjust media options before organizing the library. On multisite, network-activate the plugin and configure the options available to administrators.
Compatibility: The plugin directory listing captured on November 2, 2026, said the plugin had not been tested with the latest three major WordPress releases and listed testing through WordPress 6.5.14. Check compatibility with your WordPress installation before installing.
