Review media with no detected references

Media Hygiene Pro checks supported WordPress content and add-on data for references to images, files, audio, and video. Its dashboard lists files with no reference found in the sources it reads, with details such as file name, URL, size, and type. An unused result describes the scan coverage; it does not prove a file is unused everywhere. Custom code, shortcodes, and dynamic tags can create references when a page loads, outside what the scan can find. The dashboard reports detected coverage gaps, including the source and count. Review uncertain files and keep a current backup before deleting. Nothing is removed unless you choose it and confirm.

Pro coverage across builders and plugin data

The free version checks supported builders on pages and posts. Pro extends those checks to saved templates, headers, footers, theme settings, and custom post types. Supported builders, themes, and sliders include Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, Bricks, Visual Composer, OceanWP, LayerSlider, WP Bakery, Beaver Builder, Avada, and Flatsome. LayerSlider is also used with the Enfold theme.

Pro reads media stored by supported plugins, including Advanced Custom Fields picture, gallery, file, and repeater fields; WooCommerce product galleries, category images, downloadable files, and custom tabs; Pods; Custom Field Suite; and Jet Engine. Supported SEO plugins include Yoast SEO, All in One SEO, and SEO Press. Supported slider plugins include Slider Revolution, Meta Slider, and Smart Slider.

Match and inspect files

Pro can match resized, scaled, rotated, and edited copies to their original file. It follows references inside JSON and serialized data, and works when the uploads folder has been moved. Folder Scan checks the uploads folder for files without a database record.

Filter results by year or file type, and review the file name, URL, size, and type in the dashboard. Download files individually or use One Shot Download for the whole list. Quarantine moves files aside so you can restore them if needed. One Shot Delete removes the whole list; review results and confirm before deleting.

Tools for larger libraries

WP-CLI commands let you scan large libraries without browser timeouts. Pro also includes direct support from within the plugin. Scans are started manually; scheduled scans are listed as coming to Pro, so they are not currently available.

Media Hygiene Pro can help review files left after a redesign, rebrand, or discontinued product, or when storage limits are becoming a concern. Its results are a shortlist to check before cleanup, especially when custom code or page-rendered references may be involved.
