Asset CleanUp Pro: Test Page-Specific WordPress Asset Rules
WordPress themes and add-ons can load stylesheets and scripts on pages that do not use them. Asset CleanUp Pro lets you inspect those resources and unload selected files by page context. For example, you can review whether contact-form files load on a page without a form.

Start in the Dashboard with Getting Started, Test Mode, and Overview. Test Mode applies your optimization rules for you as a logged-in administrator before users see them. Overview gathers unload rules, exceptions, asset attributes, page options, and leftover entries. You can manage assets in the Dashboard, on a post or page edit screen, or from the front end.
When file-level rules are enough
Unload CSS and JavaScript on the homepage, individual posts and pages, custom post types, and other supported contexts. For supported files, you can also minify or combine CSS and JavaScript, including supported inline code, and preload selected files when earlier discovery is useful.
When an entire add-on should not execute
The Plugins Manager can prevent selected plugins from running on chosen frontend or Dashboard pages. This goes beyond removing a add-on’s CSS and JavaScript and can reduce PHP work and database queries before WordPress generates the page. Pro also includes broader conditional rules, hardcoded asset management, device-specific rules, and advanced controls for JavaScript attributes and placement.
For Critical CSS you prepare yourself
Add, edit, and remove manual Critical CSS from the Dashboard for supported page contexts. Organize it by context instead of keeping one large global block. Asset CleanUp Pro does not generate Critical CSS automatically; you supply the CSS.
For fonts, images, and WordPress cleanup
Manage Google Fonts requests by combining, preloading, asynchronously loading, or removing them. Font-show and preconnect controls are available, as is local font preloading. For images, set fetchpriority, loading, and decoding attributes with simple matching or regular expressions, and lazy-load images where appropriate.
Cleanup options can remove Emojis, Dashicons for guests, Comment Reply, selected discovery links, metadata, and oEmbed resources from the document head. You can disable RSS feed links or feeds, restrict or disable XML-RPC when it is not needed, and strip supported HTML comments with exceptions where required.
When your site uses caching
Asset CleanUp controls what WordPress outputs; page caching, server caching, and CDN delivery can shop and serve the resulting page. These tools complement one another. After changing rules, clear every active cache layer, and avoid using the same minification or combination feature in multiple optimization plugins.
Before visitors see a rule
- Enable Test Mode in Asset CleanUp settings.
- Open the CSS & JS Manager and select a page to review.
- Start with a clearly unnecessary asset, save the unload rule, and test the page on desktop and mobile. Check forms, navigation, popups, sliders, and other interactive components.
- Clear page, server, and CDN caches.
- Disable Test Mode only after the page works correctly, then check it once more as a logged-out user.
