Choose the date and time output
The main [wpdts] shortcode supports the available attributes and defaults to the date and time format set in WordPress. Other shortcode forms use the default date or time format, a custom format based on PHP date and time characters, or individual values such as the year, month, day, hour, minute, second and Unix timestamp. Output can also show the day or week of the year, days in a month or year, and weekday information. Month and weekday values can appear as numbers, full names or abbreviations.
Shortcode attributes can set a starting point using the current WordPress date and time, a fixed or relative date, or a post or page creation or modification time, including GMT variants. The next attribute can choose an upcoming weekday, day of the month or the month’s last day. Other attributes adjust years, months, days, hours, minutes or seconds before display, and can add leading zeros to month, day and time values.
Planned Pro additions
- JavaScript display intended to update shortcode results on cached pages.
- Additional date starting values, including first or last visit and dates for Catholic or Orthodox Easter, Passover, Hanukkah, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year. Visit values may be saved with a cookie, session or visitor option where possible.
- Visitor time-zone adjustments through a browser or IP-based parameter. The source notes that IP-based time-zone detection is not completely accurate.
- A style option for changing font face, color and size, plus a counter option that updates displayed values as a ticking text clock.
- A step-by-step Shortcode Wizard for creating configured shortcodes.
Place the shortcode where it is needed
Add a shortcode to post or page content and configure its attributes for the date value, format and display behavior. Shortcodes in titles, navigation menus, footers, widgets or other theme areas may need additional code or a plugin if the active theme does not process shortcodes there.
