AI Alt Text Generator Pro is an optional add-on for AI Alt Text Generator. The base add-on remains functional on its own and generates concise, WCAG-aligned alt text. Pro adds utilities for managing image descriptions as a continuing workflow on WordPress websites.

Use product context and scheduled scans

For WooCommerce stores, Pro can use product context when generating alt text for product images. Scheduled background scans can process new and existing images automatically, which helps websites keep up as their media libraries change.

Track coverage and maintain the add-on

The coverage analytics dashboard tracks progress across the image library and helps identify images that still need attention. Pro also includes automatic updates and priority support.

How generation works

The base plugin works with bulk processing, automatic generation on upload, custom prompts, multilingual output, prompt testing, and WP-CLI commands. It can use page context and focus keyphrases from Yoast SEO, Rank Math, and SEOPress. You can also choose to set an image’s title, caption, and description from generated text.

Generation sends images and metadata to an external AI service for processing and requires an active internet connection. By default, the plugin uses its managed credits service, with 50 free images per month for each website and paid credit plans available beyond that tier. Advanced customers can instead add their own OpenAI or Anthropic API key and select a vision-capable model offered by their provider.

Install and configure

1. Install and activate the base AI Alt Text Generator plugin.
2. Add and activate the Pro upgrade.
3. Configure WooCommerce context, scheduled scans, and coverage tracking as needed.
4. Choose the managed credits service or add an OpenAI or Anthropic key in the advanced settings, then review the external-service requirements before generating descriptions.
