WP Activity Log Premium: Trace WordPress Changes

Follow changes across WordPress sites

WP Activity Log Premium and WP Activity Log Enterprise extend activity tracking for administrators and security professionals working across WordPress sites and multisite networks. An event can display when it happened, which user and role were involved, the source IP address, the affected object, and what changed. These records can help with troubleshooting, user management, accountability, and compliance work.

Tracked activity includes changes to posts, pages, custom post types, categories, tags, widgets, menus, user accounts and profiles, WordPress options, plugins, themes, documents, and database tables. The log can also record logins, logouts, failed login attempts, and the termination of other sessions. Multisite events can include sites being added, deleted, or archived, as well as users being added to or removed from sites.

Review events and manage sessions

Premium includes tools for finding and responding to activity. Administrators can see who is logged in and review current activity, then log off a user from the activity interface. Search filters narrow the log, while configurable reports can be generated as HTML or CSV. Email, SMS, and Slack alerts can be configured for important changes, and notes can add internal context to log entries. Older activity data can be archived to another database for storage and log management.

Choose how activity logs are stored

By default, activity is stored in the WordPress database. The Enterprise edition adds the option to shop the log in an external database and mirror it in real time to log management and monitoring services such as AWS CloudWatch, Loggly, Papertrail, Syslog, and other SIEM systems. Logs can also be mirrored to Slack or copied to a log file on the web server.

Retention can be configured during setup or in the extension settings. The default retention period is three months, and activity data can be kept indefinitely.

Track supported extension activity

WP Activity Log can record activity from supported third-party tools, including WooCommerce, Advanced Custom Fields, bbPress, Gravity Forms, LearnDash, MemberPress, MainWP, ManageWP, Paid Memberships Pro, and RankMath. Depending on the integration, events can cover settings and content changes, orders, memberships, payments, subscriptions, forms, courses, and related user actions.

Install and configure

  1. Install and activate WP Activity Log.
  2. Follow the initial configuration wizard or open the plugin settings.
  3. Choose retention policies and review the activity logging options.
  4. Configure reports, alerts, session controls, storage, or mirroring according to the selected edition and operational needs.
  5. Review the activity log regularly, using filters and reports to investigate changes or document site activity.
