When WordPress content needs an update, Search and Replace Premium Edition and Search Replace Plugin Pro Version let you create rules that change text and HTML as content is prepared for front-end display. Rules can reach posts, pages, comments, titles, excerpts, links, pictures, and supported custom post types, including content generated by WordPress and extensions.

Should a replacement change display or stored content?

A live rule changes content as it is prepared for display, so the underlying database is not necessarily altered. When a permanent update is needed, the paid editions provide an option to commit replacement rules to the database. Database changes can be logged, and on-the-fly replacements have a separate log.

What should a rule match and where should it apply?

Use regular expressions to define matches, then limit a rule to specific posts, categories, tags, or other taxonomies. Time-based rules can apply during a defined timeframe. You can also search within existing rules.

Rules can target titles, content, excerpts, links, comments, and images. The add-on also works with additional content associated with Yoast, BBPress, WooCommerce, ACF, and CM Tooltip Glossary.

How can you manage rules after creating them?

Pause, edit, delete, or reorder rules as your needs change. Import and export rules for reuse or transfer between workflows. A front-end widget can let people turn rules on or off from the website interface.

What kinds of updates can the rules handle?

Use them to standardize wording across posts and pages, replace HTML on the fly, change images, or filter unwanted words in comments and other plugin-generated content. Timeframes can support scheduled adjustments, such as showing a replacement for a defined period.

How do you set up a replacement?

Install the selected paid edition in WordPress, then create a search and replace rule. Choose the content areas and matching method, followed by any post, taxonomy, or timeframe restrictions. Review the rule management and logging settings before applying live replacements or committing changes to the database.
