PPWP Pro: Password Protection for WordPress Content
PPWP Pro extends WordPress password protection to pages, posts, categories, custom post types, WooCommerce products, custom fields, custom page templates and files outside the Media Library. Protect a whole page or post, or place selected content behind a password form. Passwords are stored in post meta, and a cookie allows users to return to protected pages or posts until it expires. Files attached to protected pages or posts are not covered and may remain accessible to anyone with a direct link.

When only part of a layout needs protection
Partial Content Protection leaves a teaser visible while selected sections require a password. Section Protection adds protected areas to custom post types and templates built with page builders. Integrations are available for Elementor, Beaver Builder, WPBakery Page Builder and Divi Builder. Their modules provide options for passwords, whitelisted roles and password forms. Elementor templates, Beaver Builder rows and columns, and page templates can also be protected.
Choose who can unlock content
- Create unlimited passwords for pages and posts, with separate passwords for visitor roles or one password shared across multiple roles.
- Use master passwords to unlock content that already has password protection. They do not protect all posts automatically, and the original passwords continue to work.
- Set multiple passwords for protected categories, share one password across multiple pages, or automatically protect subpages with one password.
- Create wildcard passwords and Quick Access Links. Global passwords are also available for Partial Content Protection sections.
- Set password expiration or restrict use by WordPress user or IP address with the relevant extension.
Master passwords can be activated, deactivated or deleted, and their use can be limited by usage, time or user role. The Password Suite extension can require a password together with a username or email. Smart Restriction can set password expiration after first use.
Adjust the visitor's sign-in experience
Ajax unlocking can reveal protected content without refreshing the page. Set cookie expiration or use session cookies, which are removed when visitors close their browser. The WordPress Customizer lets you change password form headings, descriptions, error messages, placeholders and button text. Google reCAPTCHA v2 or v3 can help prevent password abuse by bots.
Quick Access Links provide another way to bypass a password form, and sitewide password entry can redirect visitors to a specific URL. Depending on the selected extensions, a form submission can grant access, or Contact Form 7 can replace the password form. Passwordless Authentication offers these form options.
Manage passwords and integrations
Track password use, including login time, IP address and browser, with the Statistics extension. Import and export passwords with Password Suite. Group Password Protection can unlock protected content at once. The WooCommerce Integration extension supports selling password-protected content and applying the same passwords to the shop page, products and category pages.
PPWP Pro works with WPML, Polylang and Loco Translate for multilingual websites. Password forms and their text can be translated into different languages.
Install and configure
Install PPWP Pro on a WordPress website, select the content or sections to protect, then configure passwords, roles, forms, cookies and any extensions you use. Check the protection scope for pages containing media, since attached images and uploads may still be available through their direct links. PPWP Pro membership plans include access to extensions and priority support.
