Find files missing from the Media Library

Media Sync Pro scans the WordPress uploads directory and shows which files are already in the Media Library and which are missing. Select files to import them into the library. This can help when files were added through FTP or another process. Placing files directly in the uploads directory may also avoid file size limits imposed by other upload methods.

Scan large collections and changing directories

Incremental scanning is designed to scan and import an unlimited number of files in smaller operations. This can help with memory and timeout challenges when many files are present, although server options may still affect processing. You can rescan one directory to look for new files or apply another filter without reloading the page.

Choose which files appear in results

Customize the default filters, search by file type such as images or videos, skip files with tailored rules, or enter a custom pattern. You can also adjust how commonly ignored files are handled. These include hidden files such as .DS_Store and .htaccess, WordPress-generated thumbnails and scaled images, optimized WebP versions of originals, and retina thumbnails.

Schedule imports and review activity

Choose an interval for automatic imports of newly found files, using the configured scan and filter options. Import logs show the history of manual and scheduled imports. Plugin access can be limited to a specific WordPress role.

Setup and troubleshooting

Install and activate the add-on, then open its settings to configure scanning, filters, scheduling, and the access role. Try importing one file first. For files to appear in the Media Library, make sure Dry Run is not enabled.

If an import stays stuck or spins endlessly, review the server's max_execution_time and memory_limit settings. If the plugin behaves unexpectedly, enable debugging in Settings > Media Sync and inspect the Network tab in Chrome DevTools. Include the errors you find when reporting the issue through the available support section.
