Polylang Pro is a paid multilingual extension for WordPress. Its shared Polylang core uses WordPress taxonomies and supports any number of languages, from one additional language to ten or more. WordPress language packs download automatically when they are ready.

How should language versions and URLs be organized?

The shared core handles translations for posts, pages, media, categories, post tags, custom post types, custom taxonomies and RSS feeds. It supports right-to-left scripts. For each language, use a language code in the URL, a separate subdomain or a separate domain. Categories, post tags and other metadata can be copied automatically when creating a post or page translation.

Customizable language switchers are available as blocks, classic widgets or classic navigation menu items. Classic menus and widgets can be translated, including in block themes with Site Editor Classic Features. Polylang is compatible with Yoast SEO.

Translation work in Polylang Pro

In the Block Editor, Polylang Pro includes language options to the widget block editor. For full-site editing themes, template parts can be translated in the Site Editor. Editors can duplicate content and synchronize it across post translations. Posts or terms can share a URL slug across languages; slugs can also be translated for categories, author bases, custom post types and more.

These options accommodate different translation processes: use a duplicate as a starting point, synchronize content between translations, or exchange XLIFF files with a professional translator.

WooCommerce uses a separate add-on

Polylang for WooCommerce is a separate add-on for WooCommerce compatibility. It lets you translate shop, checkout, cart and account pages, product categories and global attribute terms in the WooCommerce interface. It also translates customer emails into their language and synchronizes product metadata.

The add-on works with WooCommerce’s native CSV import and export tool and supports extensions including WooCommerce Subscriptions, Product Bundles, WooCommerce Bookings and Shipment Tracking. The WooCommerce REST API is available with Polylang Pro. Polylang for WooCommerce users also have access to premium support.

Setup and assistance

An included wizard guides the initial configuration. Add languages, choose a URL structure, translate content and set up language switchers in menus, widgets or blocks.
