Document types and viewer blocks
Use viewer blocks for PDFs, Word and Excel files, Google Docs, Google Slides, and more. Different viewer styles and modern layouts give you settings for how a document sits within the surrounding page content.
- Gutenberg block editor and shortcode embedding
- Responsive width control
- Height control when using Sized Container mode
- Automatic file name display or an editable file name
Layout and toolbar settings
Padding and margins control the space around a viewer. Border and shadow settings define its edge against the page, while display styles let you choose its presentation. You can also show or conceal toolbar controls for Download PDF, Print PDF, and Fullscreen Mode.
A site-wide settings profile can set default viewer options. For a specific document, configure its block in Gutenberg’s right-side settings sidebar.
Adding a viewer to a page
- Install the PDF Embed Block plugin in WordPress.
- Open a post or page in the Gutenberg editor.
- Add the document viewer block from the Widgets block category.
- Upload or select a document, then configure its settings in the right-side sidebar.
- Set the viewer style, dimensions, spacing, border, shadow, and toolbar controls as needed.
- Publish or update the page to display the embedded document.
These options fit pages with course materials, business documents, reports, forms, presentations, or spreadsheets. Block editing keeps the viewer within the page’s usual editing workflow, and shortcode embedding provides another way to place it.
