Format and Reuse WordPress Citations with Footnotes Made Easy Pro
Footnotes Made Easy Pro extends Footnotes Made Easy for WordPress posts and pages. To add a regular footnote, place its text inside double parentheses, such as ((this is a footnote)). Leave a space before the opening parentheses. The add-on numbers and links the note, then displays it at the bottom of the content. Pro includes academic source citations to this workflow.

Format sources for the selected style
Choose APA, MLA, or Chicago formatting and one of ten source types. Supported examples include books, journals, websites, newspapers, films, and theses. The selected style and source type determine how each reference is formatted.
Populate a citation from an identifier
When a source has a DOI or ISBN, enter that identifier in the citation workflow. Pro can fetch details such as the title, author, publisher, and year to populate the reference before you insert it.
Save and reuse references
Save a reference in the Citation Library, then search or filter the library to insert it in another post. Reusing the saved source avoids rebuilding its details for each article.
Work in the editor
The Gutenberg sidebar panel lets you manage, edit, and insert footnotes from the block editor. The existing Classic Editor and Gutenberg footnote processes also continue to work. For an academic citation, select a source type and citation style in the sidebar or citation workflow, then insert a new or saved reference.
Footnote controls and options
Pro retains the underlying Footnotes Made Easy features, including combining identical footnotes, setting a manual start number for paginated posts, and referring to an earlier footnote with ((ref:1)). Settings cover identifier style, back-link format and position, header and footer text, tooltip behavior, combining identical footnotes, and processing priority. You can suppress footnotes on selected page types, post types, URLs, or categories.
Install Footnotes Made Easy and upgrade to Pro to use the academic citation utilities. Priority support from the AltviseWP team is included for help with citation and referencing features.
