Converter for Media Pro adds AVIF output to WordPress image conversion alongside WebP. It makes separate versions of JPEG, PNG, and GIF images, leaving the original files unchanged.

Choose an image format for each browser

When a browser requests an image, the plugin checks which formats it supports. If AVIF is enabled and supported, it serves the AVIF version. If the browser does not support AVIF but supports WebP, it serves the WebP version. If it supports neither, it loads the original image.

The product information says AVIF images can weigh about 50% less than WebP images while maintaining better image quality.

Process the Media Library and future uploads

After installation, select the output options in the plugin settings and execute one-click optimization for images already in the Media Library. Images added to the library later are converted automatically. Conversion can also include images in the /extensions and /themes directories.

Keep converted files separate

WebP and AVIF versions are stored in /wp-content/uploads-webpc/. The original images stay in their existing form. If you remove the plugin, it removes the converted files it created.
