W3 Total Cache Pro is the paid performance edition of W3 Total Cache. It combines page, object, database, fragment, feed and browser caching with minification, compression and content delivery network (CDN) options. Cache pages, posts, feeds, search results, database objects and fragments in memory or on disk, with CDN support for compatible content.
The add-on works with shared hosting, virtual private servers, dedicated servers and server clusters. It also supports SSL/TLS, mobile caching by referrer or user-agent group, Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP), reverse proxies through Nginx or Varnish, and WP-CLI commands for cache purging and query-string updates. Available caching methods include local disk, Redis, Memcached, APC, APCu, eAccelerator, XCache and WinCache. Disk-based database and object caching may be slow on shared hosting, so check performance with your server before relying on those methods.
Pro controls for pages and requests
- Full Site Delivery: Serve an entire site through a CDN for delivery to users in different locations.
- Fragment Cache: Cache selected dynamic content while improving overall page performance.
- REST API Caching: Cache REST API calls for headless WordPress implementations.
- Page loading controls: Eliminate render-blocking CSS, delay non-essential scripts, preload requests, and remove unused CSS or JavaScript documents.
- Lazy loading: Defer offscreen images and load Google Maps when they become visible.
- WPML extension: Optimize multilingual websites using WPML.
- Statistics and purge logs: Review cache usage and performance information, and manage cache records.
Minification, CDN and picture options
Minification controls cover HTML, CSS, JavaScript, posts, pages and RSS feeds, including inline, embedded and third-party CSS and JavaScript. JavaScript grouping can be organized by template and embed location, and non-blocking JavaScript embedding helps control script placement. The extension also manages CDN delivery for the WordPress Media Library, theme files and WordPress itself.
The Image Converter extension converts common image formats to WebP or AVIF during upload or on demand. An extension framework provides customization options, including integrations for Cloudflare and WPML. Security capabilities are included in the broader performance toolkit.
Install, configure and review
Install and activate W3 Total Cache Pro in WordPress, then open its options. Configure caching, minification, CDN delivery, image conversion and other Pro functions for your hosting environment and site structure. Test changes after enabling each major feature, then use performance statistics and cache-purging utilities to review the results.
