Set tag values from page data
Meta Tag Manager Pro lets you create custom meta tags for WordPress content and site areas. Choose a predefined tag type, such as a keyword-related type, or enter a custom one. Supported attributes include name, property, http-equiv, charset, and itemprop.
Dynamic placeholders can use information about the page being displayed, including its title, comment count, or thumbnail URL. Shortcodes in meta descriptions provide another way to insert dynamic data, including output from add-ons such as ACF.
Apply global tags with context-specific exceptions
Manage global tags in Settings > Meta Tag Manager and assign them to the front page, archive pages, category or other taxonomy pages, selected custom post types, or the whole site. Exclusion rules specify contexts where a global tag should not appear, so exceptions can accompany a broader assignment.
For a single taxonomy term, such as a category or tag, define tags for that term’s page. This gives taxonomy pages their own definitions alongside the global rules.
Add tags to individual content
When editing a post, page, or enabled custom post type, use the Meta Tag Manager meta box to add tags for that item’s page. The box appears for post types enabled in the plugin settings. If it is missing, check the general settings to confirm that the content type is selected.
Resolve overlapping tag definitions
When multiple Meta Tag Manager rules could produce duplicate tags on the same page, the most specific definition takes precedence. Review overlapping rules as you set global contexts, exclusions, and individual tags.
Configure the plugin
- Open Settings > Meta Tag Manager to configure global tags and their contexts.
- Select the custom post types that should have Meta Tag Manager controls.
- For individual content, edit the post, page, or enabled custom post type and add tags in its meta box.
- Use placeholders or shortcodes when a tag value needs page-specific or shortcode output.
- Set exclusions and taxonomy rules to refine where tags appear, then review overlapping definitions.
