Roles group WordPress capabilities

User Role Pro manages WordPress roles, capabilities, and access settings through an interface that does not require coding. It includes the free edition’s capabilities and adds unlimited custom roles, restrictions for selected add-ons and dashboard menu entries, standard role resets, and multisite configuration.

Capabilities determine which actions are available to a role. Set them to fit responsibilities such as content work, administration, or site maintenance, then assign the role to the visitors who need those permissions.

Set up roles for different responsibilities

• Create unlimited custom roles and choose their capabilities.
• View and edit roles, copy capabilities from another role as a starting point, and rename existing roles.
• Assign multiple roles to a user who needs combined access.
• Restrict access to selected add-ons and dashboard menu items for specific roles.
• Configure roles and permissions across all subsites in a multisite network.

Plugin and menu restrictions control access to selected areas for particular roles. Use them with capability settings to define the access needed for each responsibility.

What do the recovery and reset tools restore?

Role recovery restores capabilities to the settings they had when the extension was first activated. For a role created after activation, recovery uses the initial capabilities set when that role was created. Pro can also reset standard WordPress roles to their default settings. If the plugin is deleted, roles revert to their original capability settings.

Install and manage permissions

Install and activate User Role Pro in WordPress, then open its role management interface. Review an existing role or create a custom one, adjust its permissions, and assign it to users as needed. Documentation and installation materials are available for guidance.
