WP Mail SMTP Pro: Email Logs, Reports and Backup Routing
WordPress sends site-generated email through its default PHP mail function unless another mailer is configured. WP Mail SMTP Pro reconfigures wp_mail() to use SMTP host credentials or a selected email provider. SMTP authentication can help address common delivery problems. Provider integrations that use a direct API can send even when a web host blocks SMTP ports; delivery also depends on the provider and sender configuration.

Choose a mailer and configure sending
Available mailer options include SendLayer, SMTP.com, Brevo, Gmail and Google Workspace, Elastic Email, Mailgun, Mailjet, MailerSend, Mandrill, Postmark, Resend, SendGrid, SMTP2GO, SparkPost, Microsoft, Amazon SES, Zoho Mail, and Other SMTP. Pro includes native integrations for Microsoft, Amazon SES, and Zoho Mail. One-Click Setup is available for Gmail, Outlook.com, and Office 365. For most mailers, you can set the outgoing from name and email address.
The Setup Wizard guides you through selecting a mailer and entering its required options. After configuration, send a test email to check the connection. Provider credentials or account authorization may be required, depending on the mailer.
Review and manage sent messages
Email logs keep a record of messages sent from WordPress. Each log can show the subject, sender, recipients, content, headers, open and click rates, delivery status, source add-on, and other message details. Use the entries to review or archive email, check formatting, audit delivery, or resend a message.
- Resend messages individually or in bulk, including messages that failed or were delivered successfully.
- Forward an important message to another email address.
- Store attachments with logged messages, then export or print logs.
- Review delivery status and email activity in reports.
Use reports, alerts, and connections
Dashboard charts summarize weekly sent and failed email. Reports group open and click rates by subject line, and weekly email summaries provide statistics about WordPress email.
A backup connection can take over if the primary connection fails. WP Mail SMTP can detect connection issues, switch to the backup mailer, and retry failed messages. Email alerts can notify you about sending activity through Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, SMS via Twilio, webhooks, or email through a secure API.
Route and manage email volume
Smart Conditional Routing directs different messages through different mailers. Set criteria using the subject or message content, sender or recipient addresses, the add-on that generated the email, and other conditions.
Rate limiting controls how many emails the site sends per minute, hour, day, week, or month. The plugin queues messages to stay within the configured limit. Optimized Email Sending can also queue messages for background delivery. Pro includes controls for default WordPress notifications and centralized SMTP settings and email log management for multisite networks.
Install and begin setup
Install and activate WP Mail SMTP Pro in WordPress, then open its settings and follow the Setup Wizard. Choose a supported mailer, provide the required provider details or authorize the relevant account, set the sender name and address where available, and send a test email. Once sending is configured, use the logs and reports to review activity.
