Embed video in WordPress
FV Flowplayer Video Player Pro adds responsive video playback to WordPress posts and pages. Built around the open source Flowplayer 7 video engine, it supports MP4, WebM, and OGV documents, along with HLS, MPEG DASH, and RTMP streams. A Flash fallback supports legacy browsers, while HLS.js delivers HLS playback on desktop browsers.
A page can contain multiple player instances. The player’s JavaScript is described as 55.6 kB, with the rest loaded when a visitor starts playback. Videos can be delivered through Amazon S3, CloudFront, and other CDNs; an in-house proprietary CDN is not required.
Set the video presentation
Show a clickable splash screen before playback, then add custom start and end screens. After playback, a popup can show HTML content such as links, images, and styling. Custom player designs can use HTML and CSS. Branding settings can replace the Flowplayer library logo with your own branding when a license is in place. Configure default options for embedded videos in the WordPress administration menu.
Playback and audience features
- Remember video position for guest users and members.
- Create playlists and use cuepoints, subtitles, native fullscreen, keyboard shortcuts, slow motion, random seeking, and Retina-ready playback.
- Use an AB loop for repeated playback, including on teaching sites.
- Enable built-in social sharing and support video intelligence video ads.
Video statistics and setup checks
The video play statistics API lets custom video fields use playback data. Logged-in administrators can use automated encoding checks, and the built-in video and theme checker helps review video encoding and website playback setup. Video encoding workflows can also integrate with the Coconut video encoding service through a free add-on extension.
Install and prepare videos
Install and activate the plugin in WordPress, then configure default player options in the administration menu. Prepare a video in a supported file or streaming format, add the player to a post or page, and select the presentation options you need, such as a splash screen, custom start or end screens, playlist, branding, subtitles, or sharing.
Before publishing, use the encoding and theme checker to review video preparation and playback setup. Documentation includes installation instructions, a visitor guide, support information, a change log, and a detailed FAQ.
