WordPress plugin
Category Editor Pro for WordPress Archive Pages
Category Editor Pro replaces the standard category description field in the WordPress admin with a TinyMCE-enabled editor. Use it to add formatted text, HTML, shortcodes, and media to supported category, tag, and product archive descriptions. The top description appears where the active theme outputs the relevant archive description, before the post or product list.
Prepare descriptions for archive pages
Category Editor Pro replaces the standard category description field in the WordPress admin with a TinyMCE-enabled editor. Use it to add formatted text, HTML, shortcodes, and media to supported category, tag, and product archive descriptions. The top description appears where the active theme outputs the relevant archive description, before the post or product list.
The add-on is designed for themes written to WordPress standards and is described as compatible with WooCommerce and other ecommerce add-ons. A theme must call the relevant description for the content to appear.
Place supporting content after the listings
The Pro version includes a second description area below blog post or product lists. Put an introduction above the listings and additional archive information below them when readers need both.
Assign images to archive menus and social previews
Assign images to categories and use the graphical menu shortcode [catimmg] to display linked category entries. The Pro version also supports tags in this menu. Display all available items, limit the number with the number attribute, or select categories with comma-separated IDs in the categories attribute. Additional shortcodes can display parent categories or child categories of the current category.
The available CSS selectors for styling the graphical menu are .catimgmain for its container, .catimmgeach for each item, and .cattitle for the category title.
The plugin provides an og:picture option for WordPress categories and WooCommerce product categories. The Pro version extends that option to WordPress tags and WooCommerce product tag archives.
Set up archive content and menu images
Install and activate the plugin, then open the relevant category, tag, or term editing screen to prepare its description. For a graphical menu, select or upload an image, use the file URL button to copy its full URL, and paste it into the category image field. Add the shortcode where you want the linked menu to appear, then check the archive page to confirm that the active theme displays its description.
Compatibility and support
The available directory status says the plugin has not been tested with the latest three major WordPress releases and may have compatibility issues. Check it with the site's WordPress version, theme, and ecommerce setup. The supplied product information lists quick support for the Pro version Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm UK time.
